Bernwode is a small concern with a keen
commitment to the breeding and production of top quality Sports Ponies
for the FEI disciplines. Our long term aim is to help the
excellent grass root systems by providing 'up and coming' riders with
realistically priced, British bred ponies capable of competing at the
highest levels.
Our breeding programme is based
strictly on temperament, conformation and performance ability and much
attention is paid to the selection of stallions to compliment our
outstanding mares. All Bernwode progeny carry proven competition
bloodlines to include National and International European medallists!
Bernwode youngstock receive a positive
start in life, enjoying the correct balance of freedom, education and
excellent general management. The stud sits in 35 acres of idyllic
Somerset countryside yet is within a four minute drive from the A303
allowing easy access for visitors and a peaceful setting for our growing
stock. All Bernwode foals are registered with the Sports Pony
Studbook Society and are eligible for future studbook grading.
Bernwode bred Foals, youngsters and
ridden ponies (up to 15.2hh) are occasionally available for purchase and
our sales page also includes some of Bernwode Brokat’s offspring
available from other breeders.
Bernwode Stud also retains a number of
their more established ponies to allow them to be placed in selected
homes with suitable riders. Past pony riders have included Louise
Crutcher, a member of the 2004 European Pony Dressage Team, Gemma Abram
who represented GB twice in 2007 and Tim Wilks, a member of the 2009
European Pony Show Jumping Team. Less experienced pony riders are
also benefiting from this arrangement with the stud and we welcome
discussion with interested parties.
